Criminal Rate among drug addicts - Case Study: Prison Jilava - Vîlcu Sorina Maria
Abstract: Criminal Rate among drug addicts is a theme with great social implications, which rises the need to stop drug use and abuse resulting in diminishing crime levels.

Drug addicts develop a habit of committing criminal actions, the main reason being the need for money to buy drugs. The effects of drugs on the human behaviour are also triggers of criminal actions, leading to aggressiveness, instability, stress and irritability, thus leading to social danger.

Criminal relapse of people who consume drugs is connected to drug relapse. In order to stop the criminal behaviour we must first terminate the use of drugs.

Romanian Laws regulate not only the prevention of drug use, traffic and circulation, but also offenders’ assistance by making them part of different programmes and forcing them to accept treatment in order to give up on their addiction.

These ideas are supported by a study conducted in March among the prisoners of Jilava Correction Facility, who were treated as former drug consumers.
