Abstract: In 2003, the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted under the auspices of UNESCO, providing the legal framework for the protection of this virtually infinite and still very little-known category of heritage, at both the national and international levels. Romania, State Party to the mentioned Convention, has its own legal regime in the matter, represented by Law no. 26/2008 on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The present article seeks to analyse the correlation between the national norms and the above-mentioned conventional norms, as well as the way in which the domestic law observes the international standards in the field.
